Key Features of Plains Lovegrass Seed are:
Drought Tolerance: Plains Lovegrass is well adapted to dry conditions and capable of surviving periods of limited moisture once established, making it a useful native grass for drought-prone areas.
Native Grass: Plains Lovegrass is a native North American warm-season perennial that contributes to native prairie and rangeland plant communities.
Wildlife Habitat: Lovegrass Seed Provides cover and seed resources that can benefit wildlife while contributing to diverse native grassland habitat.
Rangeland & Pasture: Can be incorporated into native pasture and rangeland restoration projects where a warm-season perennial grass is desired.
Erosion Control: Its perennial root system helps stabilize soil and provide long-term ground cover, making it useful for erosion-control and reclamation projects.
Adaptability: Can grow in a variety of soil conditions, including sandy, sandy-loam, clay, and rocky soils, depending on moisture and site conditions.
Planting and Seeding Rates
Optimal Temperature: Plant during the warm season when soil temperatures are consistently around 60°F or higher. Warm soil and adequate moisture are important for successful germination and establishment.
Drilled Plantings: Use approximately 0.3 PLS pounds per acre when drilled. Because Plains Lovegrass seed is extremely small, proper seed placement and good seed-to-soil contact are important.
Broadcast Plantings: Use approximately 0.6 PLS pounds per acre when broadcast. A carrier such as rice hulls or another suitable material can help distribute the small seed more uniformly.
Planting Depth: Plant very shallow, approximately 1/8 inch deep or less. Do not bury the seed deeply, as the small seed requires close contact with the soil surface for successful emergence.
Establishment: Plains Lovegrass is a slow-to-moderate establishing native perennial and may require careful weed management during establishment to allow seedlings to become well established.
Climate Zones
